Why Canada

What it feels like
when it's planned well.

CoupleFamilyMulti-generationalFriendsSoloBalanced pace

Canada is best approached as several journeys, not one coast-to-coast checklist. In the west, Vancouver’s waterfront neighbourhoods lead to Vancouver Island’s temperate rainforest and the glacier-fed lakes of Alberta. In the east, Montréal and Québec City pair naturally with the St Lawrence and Charlevoix. We usually recommend starting with one of these regions, allowing time for weather, walking and meals that are not squeezed between transfers.

At Dev Travels, Bharat Dev’s team plans around your preferred rhythm: private drivers where they add value, carefully paced self-drive sections and guides for the places that deserve interpretation. A western journey starts at an indicative INR 725,000 per person, with the final cost shaped by season and inclusions. The honest caveat is distance: even within one region, long drives, limited flight schedules and summer crowds require deliberate choices.

Highlights

Three things you'd remember.

Vancouver and the Pacific coast

Vancouver and the Pacific coast

Walk the seawall, eat in Richmond’s Chinese restaurants and explore the North Shore forest. Vancouver is a useful arrival point, but deserves more than a recovery night.

Clayoquot Sound

Clayoquot Sound

Base near Tofino for rainforest walks, tidal beaches and small-boat wildlife excursions. Rain is part of the landscape; ocean outings remain weather-dependent.

Banff and Lake Louise

Banff and Lake Louise

Combine Bow Valley walks with Lake Louise and Moraine Lake. Timed transport matters here: Moraine Lake Road is closed to personal vehicles, and summer shuttle reservations need attention.

A shape to start from

The itinerary, before we change it for you.

Every trip we send is rewritten at least once. Treat this as a rhythm rather than a route — then tell your specialist what to cut, slow down or add.

  1. Days 1–3

    Arrive gently in Vancouver

Spend three nights in Vancouver, allowing the first day for jet lag. Explore Stanley Park and Granville Island, then choose between a North Shore forest walk and a food-focused afternoon in Richmond.

  2. Days 4–6

Tofino and Pacific Rim National Park Reserve

Fly to Tofino when schedules allow, or take a ferry and road transfer, treating that as a full travel day. Spend three nights near the coast, with a guided rainforest walk and a weather-dependent whale-watching excursion.

  3. Days 7–9

    Calgary to Banff

Return via Vancouver and fly to Calgary, then transfer roughly two hours to Banff. Keep arrival evening free. Over the following two days, explore the Bow Valley with a guide and choose walks suited to your fitness.

  4. Days 10–12

Lake Louise and the southern Icefields Parkway

Move to Lake Louise for three nights. Arrange reserved transport to Moraine Lake during its operating season, walk beside Lake Louise and spend a separate day around Bow Lake and Peyto Lake, subject to road and trail conditions.

  5. Day 13

    Return to Calgary

Allow approximately two and a half hours for the drive from Lake Louise to Calgary Airport, plus a generous flight buffer. An early departure may require a final airport-area night.

Access & experiences

What we can open for you.

Clayoquot Sound with a local naturalist

Explore coastal waters on an appropriately licensed small-boat excursion. Depending on season and conditions, sightings may include grey whales, sea otters and bald eagles; none is guaranteed.

A guided day above the Bow Valley

Choose a walk around Banff or Lake Louise according to snow cover and ability. A private guide can adjust the route rather than press ahead with an unsuitable high-elevation plan.

Indigenous-led interpretation

Where available, include an Indigenous-owned cultural experience in British Columbia or Alberta. The emphasis is on the host community’s own account of its land and living traditions.

Québec as an alternative journey

For travellers drawn more to food, architecture and shorter transfers, build a separate route through Montréal, Québec City and Charlevoix rather than adding eastern Canada to a western fortnight.

Good to know

Visa
Indian passport holders generally require a Canadian visitor visa, not an eTA. Biometrics are usually required unless a valid exemption applies. Processing times vary; apply well ahead and check current IRCC requirements.
Getting around
Domestic flights connect regions, but airport time and connections consume much of a day. Drive on the right. Rental requirements vary; carry your original licence and check whether an International Driving Permit is needed.
Pace
Allow at least three nights in principal bases. Vancouver Island ferry crossings and mountain drives need more time than map distances suggest.
Seasons
June to September suits this western itinerary, although high trails can retain snow into July. May and October work better for cities and lower elevations; mountain roads, shuttles and attractions may have seasonal closures.
Health
Arrange comprehensive medical insurance: treatment for visitors can be expensive. Carry prescribed medication in original packaging. In summer, monitor wildfire smoke and local advisories; in the mountains, prepare for rapid weather changes.
Choose the coast or the mountains as your anchor, then leave enough room for the weather to have its say.

Canada questions

Asked often.

It is an indicative per-person starting budget, not a fixed package. The written proposal will specify accommodation, transport, guiding, meals, flights and taxes included. Peak-season private houses and extensive private guiding can take the cost substantially higher.

Yes, but it introduces a long flight, a time-zone change and another round of airport transfers. We usually recommend one region for a fortnight, or closer to three weeks for a selective combination.

Yes, with realistic transfer days and carefully chosen accommodation. Short forest walks, lake viewpoints and city days offer alternatives to strenuous hiking. Boat excursions and uneven trails need individual consideration.

Yes, but it should be a different itinerary. December to March suits many ski journeys, while aurora trips require a northern base and clear skies. Winter driving, severe cold and shorter daylight hours change the planning considerably.
