Why The Maldives

What it feels like
when it's planned well.

Best for
Who it suits
CoupleFamilyMulti-generationalFriendsSlow pace

The Maldives is less about collecting islands than choosing one well. North Malé Atoll offers short boat transfers; Baa brings protected marine habitats; the southern atolls reward a longer journey with different diving conditions. We plan around your swimming confidence, children's ages and appetite for activity, checking house-reef access, beach orientation and meal arrangements before recommending a villa for your stay.

Through Bharat Dev's founder-led team, we coordinate international flights, island transfers and the details that matter once you arrive: shaded outdoor space, adjoining rooms and a boat that suits your family. Allow from INR 465,000 per person for a considered seven-night journey, subject to inclusions and season. The caveat is straightforward: island dining and transfers are expensive, and even the dry season cannot guarantee uninterrupted sunshine.

Highlights

Three things you'd remember.

A house reef you will actually use

A house reef you will actually use

We distinguish a reef reached from the beach from one requiring a boat. Entry points, currents and coral condition matter more than an aerial photograph.

Baa Atoll's seasonal marine life

Baa Atoll's seasonal marine life

Within the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, Hanifaru Bay can attract feeding manta rays during the southwest monsoon. Access is regulated, and sightings depend on plankton, tides and weather.

Beach villa or overwater villa?

Beach villa or overwater villa?

Beach villas often offer better shade and easier access for children. Overwater villas provide direct lagoon access but can involve long walks, exposed decks and age restrictions.

A shape to start from

The itinerary, before we change it for you.

Every trip we send is rewritten at least once. Treat this as a rhythm rather than a route — then tell your specialist what to cut, slow down or add.

  1. Day 1

    Malé to Baa Atoll

Arrive at Velana International Airport and continue by daylight seaplane to your Baa Atoll island. Keep the afternoon free for settling in and a briefing on safe lagoon and reef access.

  2. Days 2–3

    Baa Atoll, at water level

Begin with a guided house-reef snorkel, then leave time for swimming and reading. Certified divers can arrange a local boat dive; beginners should start with instruction rather than an ambitious channel outing.

  3. Day 4

    Hanifaru Bay, when conditions align

During the usual May–November manta season, request a permitted, guide-led snorkelling visit to Hanifaru Bay. Scuba diving is prohibited inside the bay. Outside the season, substitute a local reef excursion rather than promise manta sightings.

  4. Days 5–6

    Dharavandhoo and the surrounding lagoon

Arrange a hosted visit to inhabited Dharavandhoo, subject to boat distance and local arrangements, with modest clothing ashore. Keep the following day largely unscheduled, with kayaking in suitable conditions or a late-afternoon boat outing.

  5. Day 7

One last full day in Baa

Return to a favourite snorkelling spot with a guide or stay beside the lagoon. Divers must leave the appropriate no-fly interval before the following day's seaplane and international flights.

  6. Day 8

Baa Atoll to Malé and home

Transfer back to Velana with a generous connection margin. Seaplane timings are operational rather than fixed to your preference; an early international departure may require a final night near Malé.

Access & experiences

What we can open for you.

Snorkelling with a marine naturalist

Learn to identify reef fish and understand coral bleaching on a guided swim. Coral health varies considerably between islands; abundant fish do not necessarily indicate healthy coral cover.

Mantas without the chase

Time a Baa Atoll stay for the southwest monsoon if manta encounters are the priority. Accept wetter, less predictable weather, follow guide instructions and never pursue or touch an animal.

A Maldivian cooking session

Request a lesson centred on tuna, coconut and chilli, perhaps preparing mas huni and flatbread. Availability depends on the island's kitchen team rather than a standard destination-wide programme.

An evening on a dhoni

Take a traditional-style boat onto open water in suitable conditions. Dolphins may appear, but the outing should stand on its own without a wildlife guarantee.

Good to know

Visa
Indian tourists can receive a free visa on arrival for up to 30 days, subject to entry requirements. Carry a machine-readable passport with at least one month's validity, confirmed return or onward travel, prepaid accommodation at a registered property and sufficient funds. Airlines or transit countries may require longer passport validity.
Arrival declaration
Submit the free Traveller Declaration through the official IMUGA portal within 96 hours before arrival. Recheck immigration requirements before departure and avoid paid intermediary websites.
Getting around
Resorts arrange speedboat, seaplane or domestic-flight connections. Seaplanes operate in daylight, commonly have tighter baggage allowances than international flights and can be delayed by weather. Transfers between resorts often involve returning towards Malé.
Pace
One island usually works best for a week. Splitting a short stay adds packing, transfer costs and time in transit rather than necessarily adding variety.
Health
Use strong sun protection, stay hydrated and protect against mosquito bites. Medical facilities on resort islands are limited; carry insurance covering evacuation and any diving. A yellow-fever certificate is required only for travellers meeting relevant origin or transit criteria.
Start with the reef, the transfer and the room layout. Those three decisions shape most of the stay.

The Maldives questions

Asked often.

January to April usually offers the most settled beach weather. November and December are transitional and can be wet; Christmas and New Year are nevertheless peak-priced. May to October is generally wetter and windier, though sunshine remains possible and Baa's manta season is a separate reason to visit.

It is a planning indication per person for seven nights, not a fixed offer. Your written proposal will specify the villa, occupancy, meal plan, flights, transfers, taxes and activities included. Festive travel, premium villas and private boat outings can move the total considerably.

Yes, with careful island selection. We look at transfer length, shaded beaches, walking distances, medical support and bedroom layouts. Beach accommodation is often more practical than overwater villas, particularly with young children or limited mobility.

Compare the actual inclusions against how you eat and drink. Restaurant exclusions, supplements and limited wine selections can reduce the value. Full board may suit some families better, while others benefit from a clearly defined all-inclusive plan.
